What We Offer

At Horizons North East we believe that everyone has the potential to develop the motivation and competence to lead a fulfilling life if they are provided with the appropriate support and opportunities. Our aim is to create the right environment and to assist each individual to develop the confidence and skills to achieve this. Our accommodation is a ‘home from home’ and not a hostel. Our support is floating and is provided through our experienced team. The support is provided during office hours (not 24 hours) although an emergency out of hours Duty Support Worker is always available to contact in the event of an out of hours emergency.

After joining our service each client meets with their support worker to discuss their individual goals and aspirations. We encourage clients to recognise the strengths they bring and guide them in developing these. We consider also any areas the client needs us to assist them in, to address difficulties they have faced in the past which may have impacted upon their ability to maintain their accommodation.

Clients are able to contribute and learn life skills within the local community with the help of our support team. Clients are encouraged to make ‘neighbours out of strangers’ and recognise that they have something to offer other people, and appreciate what they can offer others, as well as what they may feel they need to receive.

In providing housing support, we work alongside the appropriate external agencies to ensure the following priorities;

  • Regular formalised safeguarding ‘check ins’

  • Extensive Housing Management support

  • Supporting clients in developing coping skills to encourage mental and emotional well being

  • Support with decision making

  • Providing advice on how to maintain and contribute towards a shared accommodation household

  • Assistance with budgeting and managing money

  • Supporting the clients in developing and sustaining relationships with external agencies encouraging attendance and engagement

  • Building on skills relating to household tasks such as laundry, ironing and cleaning

  • Providing advice to clients on matters of safeguarding

  • Advice on how to safely prepare food, healthy eating and eating within a budget

  • Accessing support for alcohol and substance misuse
